Hello 1984

Have to confess I’m kinda loving the neon thing. Not too much of it, mind you. Love it with grey, with navy, with neutrals. Not loving it with black, or a whole jacket of it, or on your eyelids. No.

When Missy keenly pointed to some neon skinny jeans the other day, I thought right o.

I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect skinny jeans pattern for a while. I modified the O&S After School to make them a narrower fit. Good but not quite right.

After seeing these beauties I was keen to give them a go. Thanks to my lovely mummy I have an Ottobre subscription so nothing was stopping me (except adding those freaking seam allowances).

Armed with some neon stretch denim from Spotlight and edition 3/2013 I got cracking on the Summer Pull Ons.

Had a chat with a couple of sewing friends who had made them before  and the consensus was they have a low rise and are very very snug. So I sized up and added a bit to the rise.

And voila! Perfect skinnys. Love the fit, love the pattern. Changed the waistband construction, but not much.

Looking at them I’m instantly transported back to 1984. Remember those shirts??? You know the ones, don’t pretend you don’t.

Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Wham!

I can’t even tell you how much I love these pants!! Perfection.

  4. Great jeans. I love the pocket size relative to backside size!
How are you doing your rivets? I just bought some little teeth’ed ones as well as some iron on ones and will try both. I’d love proper press stud application type ones though….

Thanks all! I never thought neon would make a come back, but there you go. I had an awesome fluro yellow Choose Life shirt that looked a treat with my fluro socks and high waisted, pleated acid wash jeans. Classy.
Lightning, I’ll post a pic in Flickr tomorrow of the rivets I’ve been using.

My mummy bought me an Ottobre subscription too! I made her change my annual Good Food magazine subscription because I currently have over 3 years waiting to be read. Back to the jeans, these are beyond fabulous, and yes, very 80’s in the neon!

These are brilliant! I like the little ribbon on the side that makes the look RTW, too.
I’ll have to check out Spotlight here to see if they are also doing the 80’s!

    Oh dear! aren’t these gorgeous?!
I love Ottobre but lately I’m considering cancelling my subscription because I sew so little from it!
Thanks for the motivation, lol (of course, I may also need to consider moving close to a Spotlight. You (and Nicole) have been showing some amazing fabric picks!!)

It hasn’t always been the case Ana Sofia, Spotlight has improved dramatically over the past couple of years. Still a fair bit of rubbish.
She’s still loving them. She said to me yesterday “I never have to pull these jeans up, they’re always in the right place”…win!
