Winter is here (kind of, not really)

You can’t really call it a proper winter, Chappy wears shorts to school year round. Maybe if I make warmer clothes the weather will take the hint and cool on down.

Missy has been wanting a “checkered  shirt” for ages. She found some heavish yet soft plaid cotton in the stash a while ago and every time I make something she says ever so hopefully “And now will you make me my checkered shirt? Please?”

Originally I thought I’d go with Oliver & S’ Music Class Blouse but recently  I’ve lost a bit of my sewing mojo and really needed to have some instant gratification, so the Class Picnic Blouse appealed more (no button holes) given my current state of mind. I bought the pattern for the shorts but have ended up falling in love with the blouse and have made it a number of times before. They seem to fit forever, Missy is still wearing the ones I made 2 years ago.

I’m still on the look out for the perfect skinnies pattern. I’ve recently been seeing lots of awesome versions of the Small Fry Skinny Jeans by Titchy Threads so thought I’d give them a whirl.

I’ll start by saying this. It’s an awesome pattern, the instructions are great and very detailed with lots and lots of customising opportunities. This little seamstress was not so awesome with a serious unco attack. Mistakes or should I say “customised features” include, coin purse on the wrong side, wobbly unco topstitching, periods of forgetting to do a flat felled seam and being too lazy to rectify, breaking a needle on the zipper stop because I mis-measured and, and, and…. But she loves them and I love the fit. I think I’ve found the perfect skinnies.

And the little vest was inspired by this (she’s all cool except for the antennae…whoops.)  I’d have loved to have made a faux fur one but someone wasn’t that fussed so some quilted vinyl was the go. The pattern is the Kids Vest from The Make It Perfect book. This was seriously quick to sew and surprisingly the vinyl was really easy to work with.

I put the loss of sewjo down to the fact that I have a cold. Yeah that’s what it is.

I checked the topstitching on my Trenery jeans and I now feel a lot better about mine.

Love the whole look. The jeans look great!
With you on the lost mojo….sigh….(although think yours is back 🙂 )

  3. Oh I love what you’ve done. Regardless of your “customized features”, which I’m guilty of doing ALL the time, the jeans look amazing. The whole ensemble looks fantastic!! I love the topstitching on the jeans and they look great on Missy. I had to laugh because I call mine “design features”..ha ha I think I might have to try these patterns out. Thanks for sharing.
